An earthquake with a 7.6 magnitude on the richter scale hit close to Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-administed Kashmir the morning on October 8, 2005. The death toll is nearing 20,000 and expected to hit 30,000. Tremors were felt as far as Kabul and New Delhi, but the main areas affected have been Kashmir and Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province. The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago - a co-sponsor of Interfaith Open Communities - has established a Kashmir Earthquake Relief Fund to assist thoses that have been affected by this earthquake.
